Bernard Ross combines writing with consulting. He co-authored Breakthrough Thinking for Nonprofit Organisations with Clare Segal, which was voted Best Non-Profit Book in the USA in 2004. Since then he has written and co-authored a number of other books, several of which have won awards: The Influential Fundraiser, also with Clare Segal, which was nominated as one of the top five must-read non-profit books by the New York Times online; Global Fundraising, edited with Penny Cagney, which won the Skystone Prize for Research and became the first fundraising book to be published in China when it was taken on by Shanghai University Press in 2018; The Strategy Workout, again with Clare Segal; Change for Good: Behavioural Economics for a Better World, co-written with Omar Mahmoud, Head of Global Knowledge at UNICEF International; and most recently Making the Ask, with Clare Segal in 2021, which was number one in Amazon Kindle downloads in fundraising and NFP publications in the USA and UK.

With his talented colleagues at =mc consulting, Bernard has created global strategies for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, WHO, Amnesty International, Medecins Sans Frontiers, and UNICEF international. As a fundraiser, just some of his successful fundraising projects include helping to raise $1M to pay for the first paediatric unit in a refugee camp in Kenya, $5M for a museum to house the world’s largest dinosaur in Argentina, and $10M to save the last 800 great apes in Africa.
