Amani Girls Organization

Advancing girls’ rights with renewed focus.

“Our next step will be first engaging the team because, while we were brainstorming on the challenges, the first thing that came into our mind was in the issue of fundraising. The team isn’t really engaged, they see it as one person, the ED’s role, so going back, we will try to engage everyone in the team so they know it needs a collaboration to raise the resources.”

Elizabeth Dossa, Amani Girls Organization

Since joining Emerge 2.0 in June of 2024, Amani Girls Organization (AGO) has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing girls’ rights in Tanzania with a renewed focus. The participants reflected on the programme as, “… a great opportunity to reflect on areas of strength and gaps in resource mobilisation and fundraising,” with the capacity building sessions in particular “really helpful and applicable as [they] work on these gaps.”

Thanks to learnings achieved through the Emerge programme, AGO sharpened its organisational purpose, shifting from:

“Empowering girls for sustainable development.”

To:

“Advance girls’ rights through the promotion of equality.”

This refined purpose is now serving as a clear guiding star for their work.

To support this focused vision, and in partnership with a local consultant, AGO has diligently developed a comprehensive three-year resource mobilisation strategy, closely aligned with the organisation’s recently finalised strategic plan. A decidated coach, provided through Emerge 2.0, provided invaluable guidance and support in reviewing the strategy.

In addition to to the refinement and development of its strategies and plans, AGO has has made significant strides in engaging its entire staff in its resource mobilisation efforts. The organisation has established an internal resource mobilisation team, comprised of key personnel from various departments, including department heads and the executive director. This team is actively working to leverage expertise and ideas to collaborate closely on a current proposal. Physical meetings have been arranged to strengthen team cohesion and foster deeper collaboration across AGO’s six offices in Tanzania.

AGO is also actively involving its board of directors in its resource mobilisation efforts. Following an Emerge programme expert session on board member engagement, the organisation’s board expressed a strong desire for further local skills training to enhance its understanding of resource mobilisation so it can effectively support the AGO’s fundraising endeavours.

Participation in Emerge 2.0 has made a tangible difference for AGO. Director of Programmes and Operations Sono Revocatus told us, “Since we started to engage with Emerge, we are about to sign on a new donor. We have been using the knowledge shared in the programme to engage this donor […] we now have a fundraising team, which we never used to have.”

This positive momentum can also be seen in AGO’s proactive engagement with other organisations. After team members attended the International Fundraising Congress in the Netherlands in 2024, they are exploring potential collaborations with organisations in the Unoted Kingdom and in Sweden to expand their fundraising reach and access new opportunities.

These developments over a nine-month period demonstrate not only the value of the Emerge programme, but also AGO’s dedication to continued improvement and its growing capacity to mobilise resources effectively. The organisation is now positioned for continued growth and success in advancing girls’ rights in Tanzania.
