LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

Networking & collaboration for leaders in the social impact sector

A programme supporting social impact leaders to come together to tackle the problems impacting us all.

The 2024 Resource Alliance Leadership Programme brought together an incredibly diverse group of 104 leaders from 38 countries.

Over the course of the 12-month programme the cohort collaborated on discussing and finding solutions to some of the biggest issues facing the social impact sector now.

The programme was co-designed with the participants, based on an extensive consultation with and surveys of leaders across the sector, to ensure the content delivered on the ambition and priorities of the group.

The 2024 programme consisted of four full-group Leadership Summits (three virtual, one in-person at IFC2024) and six smaller-group Action Labs addressing the topics our community of leaders told us mattered the most to them right now – Innovation, Strategy & People, Climate, and Shifting Power.

The Leadership Summits covered the following areas, with expert guest speakers setting the scene before the participants co-created solutions together:

  1. February 2024 Facing the Future – with Amitabh Behar of Oxfam International and Jeroo Billimoria of Catalyst 2030
  2. May 2024Indigenous Action – with Michelle Schenandoah of Indigenous Concepts Consulting, Simeon Rose of Nature On The Board, Nana Afadzinu of WACSI, and Topaz Zega of the Anti-COP Movement
  3. August 2024Collective Action – with Tasneem Essop of Climate Action Network
  4. October 2024Youth Rising – with Martijn Lampert of Glocalities

Being a leader isn’t about seniority or age, it’s about your desire to play a leading role in improving how our sector operates and the real-world impact we have. Our Leadership Programme is for the leaders of tomorrow as well as for the leaders of today.

That power of investing time in the company of peers is always worthwhile and you will be a richer person for it. The opportunity to see and hear from peers who would then be attending the IFC was a brilliant opportunity and led to more fruitful engagements. The AI session was the highlight of the entire programme for me personally. Really insightful with practical outputs, I am still referring to it.

I found most of what was shared by speakers and through the discussion that followed to be helpful and relevant in my role. The session on AI in particular was really great, with a useful reading list and fascinating discussion. Just hearing from other fundraising leaders gave me confidence to engage with these cross-sector topics at a meaningful level. It’s not something I’d ever done before.

The group that the Resource Alliance put together was a powerful one of practitioners, decision makers and committed citizens to make impact. There are different perspectives on the challenges we face, but one thing is given – the urgency of acting together. The online discussions were very dynamic and the agenda items were great, sessions were amazingly facilitated, and the group was committed to some very interesting discussions.

The programme helped me understand the power of global connections and networks to change social issues. It was great to be in the same room at the same time, sharing ideas – I am already in collaborative talks with some of my peers on the programme!

My biggest takeaways were research that I can immediately use; some fresh ideas for navigating those aforementioned thorny problems; and a better sense of what other organisations are struggling with and what it looks like in specific cultural contexts. In other words, it was time and financial investment tremendously well spent. The Talent Lab sessions in particular were terrific. I found the organisational structure and fundraiser purpose research fascinating, and really appreciated the in-depth case study content with ability to have extensive Q&A.
