Navigating the Politics of Aid

The role of philanthropy in addressing visible and silent crises.

Join us as we critically examine how philanthropy navigates the increasingly politicised landscape of aid distribution, especially in determining which global crises receive attention and funding.

Together, we will explore the decisions made by the major donors and funders who control the flow of aid, questioning how and why crises, including those in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, are either spotlighted or overlooked.

The discussion aims to bring awareness to the political influences that shape these very deliberate choices challenge modern philanthropy on whether it has strayed from its foundational principle — love for humankind.

Through interactive discussions and collaborative activities, we will identify key biases and obstacles in the current system. The session will culminate in the development of actionable strategies to advocate for more ethical and balanced funding choices, enhance donor engagement, and promote storytelling that ensures both visible and silent crises receive the attention they deserve. Participants will leave with practical steps to influence philanthropic priorities within their organisations and a network of collaborators committed to addressing these critical challenges.
