Dr. Wolfgang Jamann is Executive Director of the International Civil Society Centre in Berlin. The development sociologist has over 25 years of experience in development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Until January 2018 he was Secretary General and CEO of CARE International in Geneva, one of the largest aid organisations of the world. Before that he headed the German NGO Deutsche Welthungerhilfe and the Alliance 2015, a strategic partnership of seven European aid organisations. From 2004-2009 he was CEO and Board member of CARE Deutschland and President of the CARE Foundation.
Previously he worked for World Vision International as regional representative in East Africa (Kenya) and Head of Humanitarian Assistance at WV Germany. As a researcher and academic he spent significant time on East and Southeast Asia in the late ninetees. After his Ph.D. dissertation in 1990 he started his career in practical development work at the German Foundation for International Development and later for the UNDP in Zambia. Dr. Jamann has published several books and article on East- and Southeast Asia and has contributed to international studies on complex humanitarian emergencies and conflict management.
